Donald Schumacher, 79, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 23, 2017 at Niagara Hospice House surrounded by his loving family. Don owned and operated Mike's Service (North Tonawanda) for 54 years. Don was an avid sportsman, belonging to the Niagara Gun Club, local racing participant/enthusiast and hockey fan. He especially enjoyed following all of his grandchildren's endeavors. Don was dedicated to his community as a volunteer firefighter with Sweeney Hose Fire Company for approximately 45 years. He adored his wife, and truly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Don was predeceased by his parents Lester and Edna (nee: Schmidt) Schumacher, and his sister Shirley (late Ernest) Muenzer. Don is survived by: his wife Laura (nee: Staschak), daughter Deborah (Kevin) McCumber, son Richard Schumacher, grandchildren (Daniel (Margo) McCumber, Ryan Schumacher, Dina (Kyle) Allen (nee: McCumber) and Steve (Julie) Schumacher), great-grandchildren (Kevin McCumber, Cole Schumacher, Nathan Allen and David McCumber), brother Gordon (late Doris) Schumacher, sister Sharon (Rich) York, brother-in-law Michael (late Delores) Staschak, and numerous aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and friends are invited to call Wednesday, January 25, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Benjamin Memorial Home, 652 Oliver Street, North Tonawanda (692-4917). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at 9:30AM at Our Lady of Czestochowa R.C. Church, 626 Oliver Street, North Tonawanda. An entombment service will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery Kenmore, NY.
